Why Join the Knights of Columbus?

Imagine being part of an organization that fills your heart and your mind with the joy of giving to others and the feeling that comes with making a difference.

Knights are Catholic men, 18 years of age and older, who are committed to making their community a better place, while supporting their Church. Being a Knight is more than camaraderie; it is being involved with your community; it is supporting your local Catholic Church, while enhancing your own faith; it is about protecting and enhancing your family life. Come see just what we are all about and take the first steps to enhance your personal life by viewing the segment, "Why Join?"

For an inspiring look at what it means to be part of the Knights of Columbus, see the video introduction, "In Service to One. In Service to All" (running time, 30 seconds).

Our eight-page Overview Booklet (pdf, 415k) gives additional information about what it means to be a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Hear what Knights have to say in their own words about their membership in the world's largest Catholic family service organization. " Experience of a Lifetime" (running time, 14 min.).

Hopefully the materials you have reviewed here will get you excited about joining us. If you are ready now or have more questions please contact our membership director John Miller (321-255-4952) for further information and let us get you sponsored and installed ASAP as a 1st Degree Knight.

Still not convinced the knights is for you? OK, then read on - there are a lot more exciting things to tell you about our council.

In addition to all the insurance programs (by the way: the most enviable and highest quality rated products in the nation - but it's a private insurance company and The Knight's OWN IT!) and the pleasure of doing something good for others and having all the camaraderie of being an integral part of a fine fraternal/charitable organization -- you will also be joining one of the Knight’s finest and fastest ascending and most esteemed councils in the nation. In other words -– this is GREAT TIME to join Msgr. Martin B. Power Council in particular. We are getting a LOT of recognition at the State and National level and everyone just loves to be part of an upbeat, proactive and winning team. If you are accepted into our council you will join the ranks of a fine family of venerable Catholic Gentlemen who will make you proud to be part of us. This council in its very first partial year gained the Knights of Columbus’ highest award -– the prestigious "Double-Star" council award. This is an amazing accomplishment for such a young council! Please also know that we are rapidly growing and currently have over 90 knights we can call "brother" -- 32 each having more than 10 years of venerable Service to the Knights. But hear this factoid - the top 10 most senior members of our council each have from 35-57 years of experience and service!! That said we are also a very generationally diverse and socio-generationally well balanced council. We have a fine mixture of new youthful members along with mid and the more senior experienced members. This engenders a wonderful council synergy as the council benefits through the integrative strengths of experience, talent, enthusiasm, passion and zest for excellence and vision. Not to boast, but we brother knights of Council #14573 are very very proud that in addition to the Double-Star Council Award we also took 6 esteemed state & national trophy awards in our very FIRST COUNCIL FORMATION YEAR (2008)! To put it all in perspective some much older and more established but less dynamic councils have yet to gain their 1st trophy or Star Council award!

And finally, as a Catholic, perhaps the most important thing to consider is one’s standing with respect to the Catholic Virtue of Charity. Charity is theologically defined as "Love of God and Fellow Man." Charity is the #1 single most important spiritual virtue that marks true followers of Christ from the luke-warm pretenders or from those who just don't "get-it." While divine love nor salvation can ever be earned – God’s grace compels a cooperative free will love response ("May it be done to me according to your word." Luke 1:38). This council is HUGE on Charity and does all it can to help others in need. Being a knight is a terrific way to have the practical opportunity and the venue for maturing in this important Christian virtue. As a knight it is a quickly aquired reflex to cooperate with God's grace & to desire to spiritually advance as a Christian through service to God's people and to promote the well being of our fine fraternity of venerable Catholic gentlemen. So, if you are feeling like it's been awhile since you have done something good for God and fellow man -- come join us. Transitioning to Christian service as a Knight is to broaden one's stride in your own personal "Walk with The Lord". So, come and join your brothers as we each: “work out [our] salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure” (Philippians 2:12-13) ).

So what are you waiting for brother? We have been waiting for you. Call or e-mail our Membership Director John Miller right now.
